Delaware Medicaid Covers Home Modifications
Delaware Medicaid covers home accessibility modifications through the Diamond State Health Plan Plus (DSHP+) waiver program, administered by the Delaware Division of Medicaid and Medical Assistance (DMMA). If you or a family member is enrolled in DSHP+, you may be eligible for significant coverage for ramps, bathroom conversions, grab bars, stairlifts, ceiling lifts, and door widenings.
We are a certified provider for all three Delaware Medicaid managed care organizations:
What we handle for you: We submit all prior authorization requests, provide the required documentation, coordinate with your care coordinator, and manage the approval process from start to finish. Most families never have to make a single phone call to Medicaid.
Who qualifies: Delaware Medicaid DSHP+ members who require home modifications to remain safely in their home. A physician or occupational therapist order is typically required. We can help coordinate this.

New Jersey Medicaid covers home accessibility modifications through the Managed Long Term Services and Supports (MLTSS) program. If you or a family member is enrolled in NJ Medicaid and receiving MLTSS services, home modifications are a covered benefit.
We are credentialed with all five NJ MLTSS managed care organizations:
Covered modifications include wheelchair ramps, grab bars, handrails, bathroom modifications including tub-to-shower conversions and roll-in showers, stairlifts, vertical platform lifts, overhead ceiling lifts, door widenings, and threshold ramps.
What we handle for you: We submit the prior authorization, provide all supporting documentation, and coordinate directly with your care manager. You do not need to navigate this alone.
Check Your New Jersey Medicaid CoverageWhat Medicare Covers — and What It Doesn't
Medicare does not cover most home accessibility modifications as a standard benefit. However, there are important exceptions and adjacent benefits that many families miss.
Medicare Part B May Cover
- Manual and power wheelchairs
- Hospital beds
- Walkers and rollators
- Portable ramps (when prescribed as DME)
- Scooters and power mobility devices
Traditional Medicare Does Not Cover
- Stairlifts and ceiling lifts
- Bathroom renovations
- Door widenings
- Structural modifications
- Wheelchair ramps (permanent)
Medicare Advantage (Part C): Many Medicare Advantage plans now include supplemental home modification benefits that traditional Medicare does not. Coverage varies significantly by plan and carrier. Call your plan and ask specifically about "home modification benefits" or "home safety benefits."
Accessible Solutions LLC is a Medicare-enrolled DME supplier. We can bill Medicare directly for covered equipment when you have a physician's order.

Do you offer financing or payment plans?
Yes, we offer financing options through CareCredit and other lending partners so you can spread the cost over time. Many families use financing for larger projects like full bathroom renovations or home additions. We walk through every payment option during your free assessment.
Does Medicare pay for stairlifts or ramps?
Traditional Medicare does not cover stairlifts, ramps, or most structural home modifications. However, Medicare Part B does cover durable medical equipment such as wheelchairs, hospital beds, and walkers when prescribed by a physician. Some Medicare Advantage plans include supplemental home modification benefits — check your specific plan or call us.
Is there income-based assistance for home modifications in Delaware or New Jersey?
Yes. Both Delaware and New Jersey have income-based programs that can fund home modifications for low-to-moderate income homeowners. In New Jersey, the NJHMFA Home Modification Loan Program offers 0% interest loans up to $50,000. In Delaware, the Delaware State Housing Authority offers rehabilitation programs that may include accessibility modifications.
Does homeowner's insurance cover accessibility modifications?
Standard homeowner's insurance policies do not typically cover planned accessibility modifications. However, if a modification is needed as a result of an accident or injury covered by a liability claim, your insurance may contribute. Long-term care insurance policies sometimes include home modification benefits — check your policy or call your insurance agent.
